Plant Information
🌸 About African Violets
African Violets are compact flowering plants prized for their colorful blooms, soft foliage, and remarkable variety. Native to eastern Africa, they are members of the Gesneriad family and have been cultivated into thousands of named varieties with differences in flower color, form, foliage, variegation, and plant size.
Heavenly Creation Nursery (HCN) specializes in established African Violets grown in 4-inch nursery pots. We offer a large and changing selection of named cultivars, from classic varieties to distinctive collector plants.
🌸 Blooming/Budding & Out of Bloom Plants
Many HCN African Violets are available in two options:
Blooming/Budding — Selected with flowers or developing buds present when prepared for shipping.
Out of Bloom (OOB) — An established plant of the same named variety that is not required to have flowers or buds when shipped. OOB plants are typically offered at a lower price, making them an economical way to expand your collection.
Blooming status naturally changes as plants progress through their growing and flowering cycles, so future bloom timing will vary by cultivar, season, and growing conditions.
Care Instructions
☀️ Light
🌥️ Provide 10+ hours of bright, indirect light each day for healthy growth and consistent blooming.
🌅 A small amount of gentle early-morning sunlight can be tolerated, but avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.
💡 African Violets also grow and bloom well under appropriate LED or grow lights.
💧 Watering
💧 Water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry.
🌞 Morning watering is preferred.
🌿 Keep the soil evenly moist, but never soggy.
📤 Allow excess water to drain completely and never leave the pot sitting in standing water.
🌼 Fertilization
🧃 HCN uses a liquid African Violet fertilizer (8-14-9).
🥄 Apply a weak solution with each watering to support healthy growth and flowering.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
🌡️ African Violets perform well at approximately 60–80°F (16–27°C).
💧 40–50% relative humidity is generally suitable.
🚫 Protect plants from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and prolonged temperature extremes.
